Do You Use Refferences

I really hate having to relay on reffence pictures for poses all th time, but when i dont use them my pictures end up looking so flat.
I'm praticing doing gestures but there really hard or mabye I'm making them harder than they really are. (tends to do that TT) Either way I still have to start with some kida refference.
Does anyone elso have this problem or am I alone?
